I'm heading to Memphis and Nashville very soon. Would love some advice on where to go and where to eat. Thanks all!

Nashville
To Anna, who recently visited Memphis and Nashville, Tn. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to our fine State. If you don't mind me asking, first - where are you from and second, where did you stay and eat in Nashville? Especially where did you have the eggs in toast cups? Did you eat any good BBQ in Memphis? I've never taken the trip down the Mississippi myself, you've given us a thought for a weekend trip.
Thanks, Linda, Nashville, TN

To Anna who is going to Memphis soon. I highly recommend going to the Peabody Hotel and watching the ducks coming down the elevator from the top of the hotel, then waddling across a RED carpet and going for a swim in a huge fountain of water in the middle of the lobby. It's such a unique experience! It's also fun taking the elevator to
the top of the hotel (yes, the very TOP of the building!) to see the elaborate accommodations that have been built especially for the ducks. Several years ago, my husband and I stayed at the Peabody and had such a wonderful time. A person could actually live there in the hotel and never have to leave because there are several shops and restaurants within the hotel itself. The hotel has a rich history and the architecture is beautiful. (You don't have to be hotel guest in order to see the ducks, etc. I would call first to find out the ducks' schedule. )

Here are more great eating places in Nashville. One is the Noshville Deli on Broadway, which is an authentic New York delicatessen. There is a second Noshville Deli in Green Hills, but the one on Broadway is the original, and the best one, in our opinion. It has the famous Carnigie Deli's cheesecake, which can't be missed! Also the black and white cookie, large or small. Remember them from Seinfeld? You can try one. Also, at lunch time, they have samples of the black and whites, and other pastries. Anything, really, at Noshville Deli is good! Can you see it's one of our favorite places to eat in Nashville?

If you like Italian food, Amerigo's is a fine place to eat. Looks fancy, but you are welcome, whether you have on a suit or fancy dress, or jeans.

My best friend lives in Nashville, so we go there often. Noshville Deli and Amerigo's are our two favorite, not to miss places, to eat, each time we visit.

Welcome to Nashville,  Music City USA.  If your aren't staying in or  around the Opryland Hotel, that is a must place to at least visit.

OpryMills is in this area for shopping.   I don't know if you are into Country Music, but if so, visit the country music hall of fame,  which is downtown Nashville.  Don't forget the Ryman Auditorium,  original home of Grand Ole Opry.  Also downtown, 2nd Avenue is the  "happening place", with a wide variety of restaurants/bars (especially  Tootie's bar)  and other attractions.  The Cumberland River is in this  area, as well as our Titan's football stadium.   If you are into
country music and the music singers, there are several bus tours  available.  I think they pick you up from your hotel, you'll need to  check.  If you do take a tour, you'll come by my house as you go to  Dolly Parton's house,  Give me a shout out - lol.

A very nice place to eat  is the Hermitage Hotel,  which is also  downtown but in a different part of town from 2nd Avenue.  Google  Hermitage Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee to read information.  Also,  Sunset Grill (google this also) in Hillsboro Village (near Vanderbilt  University) -  keep you eyes open for music stars.  Hillsboro Village  is a fun place to visit, time permitting.  If your staying in the  downtown area, you might want to eat breakfast at  the Pancake House  in Hillsboro Village, but be prepared to wait in line.

I wish I knew where you are staying (Opryland area or downtown) so I  could give you more specific information.  I'm not that impressed with  restaurants in Opryland area, sorry.  I suggest a trip downtown to
eat.  Other  good restaurant in downtown N'ville, Demo's, The Melting  Pot. Spaghetti factory, to name a few.

While in Memphis, one other responder mentioned the Memphis Bar-B-Que,  and yes that is a must, as well as a visit to Elvis's home.  Another  good BBQ restaurant is Neely's.  They have a restaurant in Memphis and  Nashville.  They are also now on the food network, "Down Home WIth The  Neely's".  There is also a Corky's outside Nashville, in Brentwood,TN.Hope this information is helpful but If you have any question, I'm
sure Nancy will let you ask through her newsletter.

Also wish I knew where your from.
Have fun and Welcome.

Visiting Nashville and Places to Visit
This is for Anna who is going to be visiting Memphis and Nashville - I don't know about Memphis but we just returned from Nashville and had a wonderful time -we ate in Bob Evans / Cracker Barrel / and at the Santa Fe - if your going to be staying  in the Grand Old Opry area these are not very far - other than the Santa Fe they are within walking distance - the Santa Fe is a little further past all the hotels / food and service was great in all three. I know you will have a great time.

Re: Anna who wanted to know about things to do and
places to eat in Memphis and Nashville

Be sure to visit Elvis Presley's home. That would be
a #1 on your list! It is a great tour and probably
would take most of the day.

No stop in Memphis would be complete without eating
Memphis BBQ. There are so many good places to try it
would be hard to name them all. We love the Germantown Commissary which is in Germantown which is a 'burb of Memphis. I don't know where you are from,
but here, BBQ sandwiches are served with slaw on them. If you have never eaten them like that, try it!
Yummy! Hope you enjoy your trip to Memphis.

In newsletter of 4-23 Anna asked where to eat in Nashville, Tn. I recommend the Fifth Quarter Restaurant.

For Anna who has upcoming visits to Memphis and Nashville, a trip to Memphis wouldn't be worth it without a stop at one of the 3 or 4 Corky's Barbecue restaurants. Corky's has been voted the best barbecue in Memphis for many consecutive years and it's so good that I have it shipped to me 2 or
3 times a year. Mr. Myron Drinkwater - Lake Forest, CA
